Samsung Galaxy AI coming to previous flagship today

by on28 March 2024

Galaxy S23 series, Galaxy Tab S9 series, as well as foldables and flipables

Samsung has announced that its Galaxy AI will be launching to more devices as of today, March 28th, as a part of the One UI 6.1 update. The list includes the entire Galaxy S23 series, Galaxy Z 5-series foldable and flipable phones, as well as some Galaxy Tab S9 series tablets.

As said, the Galaxy AI, which has been tried by "millions of users" according to Samsung, which also means that its sales of the Galaxy S24 are pretty good, will be coming to to the Galaxy S23 series, S23 FE, Z Fold5, Z Flip5, and Galaxy Tab S9 Ultra, Tab S9+, and Tab S9 WiFi tablets. The Galaxy AI comes with the One UI 6.1 update which will "begin rolling out" starting March 28th.

It is still not clear which features will be coming to what region, but in the US, Samsung lists a couple of "most popular ones", including:

  • Circle to Search with Google2 revolutionized the way users search, helping it become the most widely used AI feature amongst Galaxy S24 users. It allows them to learn more about almost anything on their screens quickly with a simple gesture, without having to switch apps.
  • Galaxy S24 users are also getting the most out of Live Translate3, helping them remove communication hurdles with voice translations through the Samsung Phone app. With Live Translate, users experience two-way, real-time voice and live caption translations of phone calls, minimizing the possibility for those lost-in-translation moments.ž
  • Users continue to take advantage of Generative Edit4— Samsung’s powerful AI photo editing tool — when adjusting their favorite pictures. Users can resize or fill in the background of a shot after removing an object, like when a person walks into the frame.
  • Another one of the most frequently used AI features is Chat Assist, which helps users seamlessly communicate on Samsung Keyboard. Chat Assist offers translation, writing style, or spelling and grammar tweaks. And since it’s built into the keyboard, they can use it across apps.

In Europe, Edit Suggestions, Instant Slow-Mo, Note Assist, and Transcribe Assist features should also be available.

Previously, Samsung said that these features would be free but only until the end of 2025, and it is still not clear what will happen after that date. Samsung also said that the Galaxy AI, or some of its features, could be coming to the Galaxy S22 series as well, but the precise date or more details have not been detailed.
