Review roundup: Faster than RTX 2080 Super at $400

Nvidia has officially launched its latest Ampere-based RTX 30 series graphics cards, a $400-priced RTX 3060 Ti, and with reviews coming online, we can get a clearer picture regarding its performance and value.

Based on GA104 GPU, the Geforce RTX 3060 Ti features 38 out of 48 stream multiprocessors, for a total of 4,864 CUDA cores, 153 Tensor cores, and 38 RT cores. It also has 80 ROPs, 152 TMUs, and it comes with 8GB of 14Gbps GDDR6 memory on a 256-bit memory interface, leaving it with a maximum memory bandwidth of 448 GB/s. The TBP is set at 200W.

The Founders Edition, which will be available directly from Nvidia, comes with a similar cooler design as the RTX 3070 Founders Edition, with a slight change to the metal frame color. You are looking at a short PCB with dual fan dual-slot cooler and it draws power from the 12-pin Molex MicroFit 3.0 connector and comes with a 12-pin to 8-pin PCIe adapter in the box.

Faster than RTX 2080 Super, and offers great value at $400

The  RTX 3060 Ti is just slightly faster than the RTX 2080 Super, which is an impressive feat considering that the RTX 2080 Super launched back in July last year at $699. The RTX 3060 Ti sits just below the RTX 2080 Ti, and it will be interesting to see how well it competes with AMD's upcoming Radeon RX 6700 series GPUs.

The RTX 3060 Ti offers significant improvements in performance-per-Watt, as it trumps even some mid-range graphics cards that held their ground when the power consumption comes into play. AMD's impressive RX 6800 series still holds the crown in that segment, especially considering it provides much higher performance compared to the RTX 3060 Ti, but RTX 3060 Ti still offers great performance-per-buck, as nothing comes close in that $400 price range.

The Geforce RTX 3060 Ti should offer playable framerates at 1440p resolution in most games and should be enough even for 4K/UHD gaming in some titles.

Of course, it comes with all the latest Nvidia technologies, including support for RTX and DLSS, which gives it an edge in some games.

The Geforce RTX 3060 Ti, which will be officially available as of tomorrow, December 2nd, is a great addition to the RTX 30 series lineup, and hopefully, AMD will soon bring some competition to that market segment as well.
