13.9-inch FullView screen, 8th gen Intel CPU and impressive design

Huawei has kicked off its Mobile World Congress 2018 event with a rather impressive looking notebook which features a rather impressive design as well as some serious hardware, all packed in a metal uni-body with 13.9-inch FullView touch screen with slim bezels.

While the original MateBook X was a decent 13-inch notebook, Huawei managed to push it even further with the new MateBook X Pro.

Built around a 13.9-inch LTPS/IPS 10-point touch-screen with 3000x2000 resolution (260PPI), called FullView, it has a 91 percent screen-to-body ratio, thanks to 4.4mm bezels, 100% sRGB color gamut, 450nits of maximum brightness and 1500:1 contrast ratio.

As noted, the Huawei MateBook X Pro uses a metal uni-body design with 304x217x14.6mm dimensions and 1.33kg of weight. Unlike some premium ultrabooks on the market, Huawei managed to squeeze in a standard USB 3.0 Type-A port on one side, and two USB Type-C ports on the other side of the notebook (both supporting data transfer, charging and connection with MateDock 2).

The heart of the MateBook X Pro is Intel's 8th Core CPUs, the Core i7-8550U or the Core i5-8250U. It will also have a choice of Nvidia Geforce MX150 GPU with dedicated 2GB of GDDR5 memory, 8GB or 16GB of LPDDR3 2133 memory, 256GB or 512GB of NVMe PCIe SSD storage and more.

The MateBook X Pro also kept the 2-in-1 power button with fingerprint sensor, seen on the original MateBook X and comes with a full-size backlit chiclet spill-proof keyboard and a large touchpad. The 1.0-megapixel camera is neatly located between the F6 and F7 keys and can be tucked away when you don't need it.

According to Huawei, the MateBook X Pro comes with a 57.4Whr battery, which should keep it alive for around 12 hours. The MateBook X Pro also comes with a USB-C fast charger that, according to Huawei, can give you 6 hours of usage on a 30-minute charge.

The rest of the specifications include quad-speakers with Dolby Atmos certification, built in quad-microphones, and Windows 10 OS.

According to what we heard, there will be three different SKUs:

  • Core i5-8250U CPU, 256GB of SSD, and 8GB of RAM
  • Core i5-8250U CPU, 512GB of SSD, 8GB of RAM and Nvidia MX150 GPU
  • Core i7-8550U CPU, 512GB of SSD, 16GB of RAM and NVidia MX150 GPU

While Huawei did not officially reveal any details regarding the price or the availability date, we are hearing that it should be available as of Q2 2018 with a price starting at around €1500 for the base version so we suspect that the high-end version with Core i7 CPU could go as high as €2000, which is still cheaper than some other premium ultrabook notebooks.
