Samsung is said to be working on a 12.2-inch tablet, armed with a 2560x1600 IZGO LCD display. The rumour comes just a week after Samsung introduced the rather terrible Galaxy Tab 3, with a 1280x800 screen.

Samsung’s maxi tablet is also said to feature a stylus, which could make it a bit more useful. In addition, a 12.2-inch tablet sounds like a perfect fit for a mechanical keyboard and it might make sense for Samsung to roll out an official keyboard dock.

An oversized tablet might sound a bit odd, given the market’s love of small and cheap Android tablets, but there might be more to it. Apple is rumoured to be working on an oversized iPad as well, and for years analysts have been saying that it is only a matter of time before Apple merges high end iPads and small MacBook Air models into some sort of hybrid device.

Korean tech site Etnews reports that Samsung Display and Sharp are going to ship between 2 and 2.5 million 12.2-inch panels to Samsung Electronics. It seem the company is hoping to sell millions of 12-inch tablets per quarter, which seems rather optimistic given Samsung’s track record in the tablet market.
