Will be selling downloadable titles on 360 and PS3

Sega is now confirming what we have been telling you about over the past couple of weeks. The company will be embarking on a strategy to sell a number of the popular Dreamcast titles as downloadable titles on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. The company claims that the number of requests by Dreamcast fans to re-release these titles and sell them as downloadable content is one of the biggest requests that they have received.

Sega will be releasing titles for both the Xbox 360 and the PlayStation 3. The first two Dreamcast classics to be released will be Sonic Adventure and Crazy Taxi. These two titles will arrive this fall and will be followed by a number of other Dreamcast titles over time. With the library numbering over 650+ titles, the company has a lot of titles to choose from; however, our sources tell us Jet Set Radio will be among the next batch of titles released.

Beyond saying that, the conversion of these titles would in some cases include higher resolution graphics (HD Support) and surround sound; the company has only confirmed that all of the released titles would include online scoreboards and achievement/trophy support. The game play itself is expected to remain faithful to the original titles that Dreamcast players remember.

Beyond this news, Sonic Adventure and Crazy Taxi will arrive this fall around the official anniversary of the release of the Dreamcast. No official release date has yet been mentioned. The move by Sega could end up being one of the smartest decisions the company has made in a long time. With the retro craze that continues to attract gamers back to the games of old, Sega has done quite well with the release of a number of Genesis titles, so naturally, the decision to release a number of Dreamcast titles is a no brainer.

Speaking of the release of Genesis titles, our sources have been whispering to us that Sega isn’t finished releasing those, either. The company is said to be preparing another batch of Genesis titles to be released in a collection disc for both the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. Word we hear is that the second volume of Genesis classic will feature a number of Genesis and Sega Master System titles that were left out of the first release. Other than hearing that this is past the planning stage, no additional info has been released on when players can expect it to be released.
