Greybox maker Dell has angered eagle eyed Apple fanboys for daring to suggest that its new laptop is thinner than the toy created by Jobs' Mob.
What appears to have got their goat was an advert for the Dell XPS-15, containing the phrase "Finally, the power you crave in the thinnest 15" PC on the planet.*"
The Guardian noted that the * was linked to a footnote which said the thinness comment was based on a comparison of other 15" laptop PCs manufactured by HP, Acer, Toshiba, Asus, Lenovo, Samsung, Sony, MSI. It pointed out that no comparison made with Apple which is a few hairs thinner.
The paper sniffed that the XPS-15 is the world's thinnest... apart from any thinner 15-inch laptops it wasn't compared against. To be fair, Apple makes a great deal of its product not being a PC, so Dell has not exactly pulled a fast one. Dell has said it makes the thinnest PC, so it probably does.
The fact you can pay a lot and get something thinner that is not a PC does not change its comment.
