Expensive, but very unique combination of extras

It seems that every time we turn around we are finding out something more or new about the upcoming release of Halo Reach. (I guess our sources were not kidding when they told us that Microsoft was going to make this the biggest and most expensive launch ever!) The big news today is that Halo Reach will be available in three different editions, depending on how much you want to spend and how big of a Halo fan you are.

Of course, we will have the standard edition, which will go for the regular $59.99, which is no surprise, and you will get the manual and the disc. The first step up from the standard edition will be the Halo Reach Limited Edition, which will retail for $79.99. By springing for the extra $20 you will get Halo Reach packaged in a recovered ONI black box, game disc/manual, in-game special Elite armor that can be used in multiplayer modes, and a special artifact bag that contains Dr. Halsey’s personal journal, as well as some additional things that will reveal secrets of the Halo universe.

From the Limited Edition we climb up to the Legendary Edition, which will carry a price tag of $149.99, but it will be up to you to judge if there is enough value in the Legendary Edition to warrant the price. The Legendary Edition will come with the game disc/manual, the same ONI black box from the Limited Edition, the artifact bag that contains Dr. Halsey’s personal journal w/extras from the Limited Edition, Noble Team statue created by Todd McFarlane Toys (individually numbered), UNSC themed custom packaging, and an exclusive multiplayer mode Spartan armor effect.

So, basically the Legendary Edition includes everything from the Limited Edition to the Noble Team statue, which is the star of this package. From what we have been able to learn, the statue was crafted by the team at McFarlane Toys and is individually molded, hand-painted, and, of course, individually numbered. Beyond that, the only other real difference is the special packaging, which is needed to ship the statue.

We think that most Halo fans will be drawn to the Limited Edition and only the hardest of hardcore will invest in the Legendary Edition. There is no word yet on how limited the Legendary Edition will be, but we suspect that will have a lot to do with how many buyers choose to plunk down the cash for a pre-order of the Legendary Edition. Of course, we will expect the standard edition to outsell the other two editions combined.
