by on19 February 2024

Innovative strategy for the segment

GoPro is taking an innovative approach to its market segment by investing heavily in cloud storage. While competitors like Insta360 are catching up regarding camera features, GoPro has divided its previous $49 subscription plan into three-tier models. The Quik app debuted for Mac, but PC users are still waiting.

The new GoPro subscription service offers cloud storage, camera replacement, discounts, and more. The new plans, launched two weeks ago, GoPro Premium and Premium+, range from $49.99 to $99.99 per year. Subscribers can also enjoy the Quik app, allowing them to edit and share their videos easily on their Mac computers. Previously, the Quik app was only available for iOS and Android devices.

The GoPro Premium subscription is the original GoPro subscription. It offers unlimited cloud storage of photos and videos, up to 50% off on accessories and apparel, and camera replacement in case of damage or theft. It costs $49.99, the same as before. This option also offers 25GB of additional cloud storage for non-GoPro footage.

In full detail, the new plan offers premium manual and automatic editing tools in the GoPro Quik apps for mobile and desktop, unlimited cloud storage for GoPro footage and 25GB for non-GoPro footage stored at 100% quality, and automatic footage upload while the camera charges. Subscribers can save up to 50% off accessories at GoPro.com, receive USD 100 off their next GoPro upon renewal, and have guaranteed camera replacement.

GoPro Premium+ is the most comprehensive plan, offering all the benefits of GoPro Premium, up to 500GB of cloud storage for non-GoPro footage stored at 100% quality, and HyperSmooth Pro® world-class stabilization with professional control. This plan is targeted towards professionals or those who aspire to be one.
