Asus shows off VivoPC and VivoMouse at Computex

Written by Slobodan Simic

Wants a bigger piece of HTPC market

Asus is apparently gunning for a bigger share of the HTPC market as it has decided to announce two rather perculiar new products during its Computex 2013 press conference, a SFF Asus VivoPC and a touchpad featuring VivoMouse.

Featuring an aluminum finish and a very sleek design, the VivoPC is a Windows 8-based HTPC that, according to Asus, can double as a primary desktop as well, most likely for office and light home use. It has a built-in SonicMaster speakers which is quite unique for that form-factor and can stream HD video content via 802.1ac WiFi connection. It also has a some sort of sliding case cover that will give quick access to memory slots and the drive bay that can take a 3.5-inch or 2.5-inch SATA 6Gbps HDD/SSD.

The precise dimensions are 190x190x56.2mm and although Asus did not reveal any precise specifications it did not that it will be based on Intel's CPU with Intel HD integrated graphics, so no AMD inside yet. It also features two USB 3.0 and four USB 2.0 ports. In any case, it will be nice to see full specifications and most importantly a precise launch price.

The Asus VivoMouse is everything except a mouse as combines touchpad and wireless remote together with a strange design for a simple PC rodent. It features 1200dpi optical sensor, uses 2.4GHz WiFi connection and has a 3-point multi-touch touchpad with support for Windows 8 gestures. The precise dimensions are set at 135x78x25.5mm. It sounds very interesting and Asus is confident enough to call it the perfect peripheral for a living room PC.

Both are scheduled to be available in Q3 2013.
