In a weibo post, Oppo's VP, Brian Shen, released a short video showing a smartphone that has an under-display front camera, and it appears that software disables a part of the screen where the camera is located, allowing it to be used.
Just a few hours later, Xiaomi's president, Lin Bin, also shared a video showing a Mi 9 prototype that has the same system.
A flip-up, pop-out, and similar solutions are good but are more expensive and complicated so it does not come as a surprise that smartphone makers are hard at work to come up with an under-display solution.
Hopefully, such smartphones will come soon and our bet is that Xiaomi might be the first one to the market with such a device.
