Officially confirmed

It has been officially confirmed that the Samsung Galaxy S7 will launch on February 21.

The event is branded as the Samsung Galaxy Unpacked 2016 with a hashtag of  #TheNextGalaxy. A 15 second short video (below) also shows a fashionable chap wearing what might be the S7 generation Galaxy Gear.

We have written a lot about the Galaxy S7 upcoming flagship phones, and even got the picture and described them in detail. There will be a smaller one called Galaxy S7 and a bigger Galaxy S7 Edge.

The Samsung Galaxy S7 comes with a 5.1-inch Super AMOLED display with a 2560x1440p resolution, 577 pixels per inch, and Gorilla Glass 4. The Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge has  a 5.5 screen and curved display.

There will be two versions – one with Snapdragon 820 and LTE Cat 12/13 X12 modem while the other has Samsung's own 8890 SoC with a Cat 12/13 modem. The Exynos 8890 is a second generation 14nm FinFET from Samsung it should also have four Exynos M1 "Mongoose" custom ARM cores as well as four Cortex A53 mode. Samsung still believes that BIG.little is the right way to make SoCs. It remains to be seen if Mongoose can defeat a Snapdragon Kryo cores.

The announcement did not come as a surprise. The LG normally launches new stuff around now and has the press conference at the same day –  February 21. This is just a day before the official start of the Mobile World Congress, a central event in mobile phone community each year.

Samsung is smart enough to keep the 3.5 inch headphone connector and both phones look similar.
