Custom PCB and next-gen Tri-Frozr cooler

MSI is preparing a new flagship graphics card that will not only be a part of its Z lineup but also a part of the flagship Lightning series, the GTX 1080 Ti Lightning Z.

Spotted at the Computex 2017 floor by Techpowerup.com, this flagship behemoth will use a new custom-design PCB, specifically developed for this graphics card as well as a next-generation Tri-Frozr air cooler. The PCB will feature a massive VRM which gets power from three 8-pin PCIe power connectors.

The custom PCB and the new cooler make the GTX 1080 Ti Lightning Z over 30cm long, taller and almost 4-slots thick, which means that you will need a lot of real estate in the case to squeeze it in.

According to known details, the GTX 1080 Ti Lightning Z will work at 1582MHz base and 1695MHz GPU Boost while 11GB of GDDR5X memory will work at 11.12GHz. There will also be a special Lightning software mode, which will push the GPU to 1607MHz base and 1721MHz GPU Boost clocks.

MSI obviously wants to have a contender for the fastest GTX 1080 Ti on the market and the GTX 1080 Ti Lightning Z could end up to be the fastest one that money can buy. Of course, it will cost a pretty penny as the report suggest a price of close to US $1000.
