AMD has announced the appointment of Abhi Talwalkar to its board.

For those not in the know,  Talwalkar was the CEO of LSI from May 2005 until the completion of LSI’s merger with Avago Technologies in May 2014.

Before that Talwalkar held a number of senior management roles at Intel, including corporate vice president and co-general manager of the Digital Enterprise Group and vice president and general manager of the Intel Enterprise Platform Group.

Previously in his career, Talwalkar held various engineering and marketing positions at Sequent Computer Systems, Bipolar Integrated Technology and Lattice Semiconductor.

Talwaklar was once tipped to be AMD CEO and at the time said: "AMD needs someone who has experience as a CEO, knows the dynamics of the Intel market and has had some experience with big turnarounds" which is pretty much his CV. At the time he said he was too interested in running LSI, and may not even have gone for it. Now it seems that he has worked out a way of getting involved in the company
