Facebook puritans curse Oculus's killer app

No sex please we are Americans

While the adult entertainment industry has been the killer app for a number of technology breakthroughs, Mark Zuckerberg wants none of it for his Oculus Rift.

Oculus founder Palmer Luckey last week said that the company will allow pornography on its VR buckets because Oculus was committed to creating an open platform.

However it looks like the company's new owner, Facebook is killing that idea off straight away. After all it is America and that was populated by the puritans, a bunch of people so uptight that even the English thought they were too extreme and kicked them out in the 16th century.

It also appears that Luckey's hopes about the Rift being an open platform are also doomed.

Oculus will run its own app store similar to Apple's app store, which is the only means of getting mobile apps onto iOS devices.

Oculus would therefore not be an open platform, and Facebook has said will "vet the apps that appear in its store, and even rate the apps" according to the report.

It has confirmed that virtual reality sex games will not be a part of that. In the same way that things which have nipples are banned on Facebook.

We guess it will employ the typical American double standard when it comes to censorship, by allowing violent games to be developed.
This means that you are allowed to chainsaw a woman in half in a psychopathic rage but if you have consenting sex you are immoral.

Oculus Rift will be out next year, but a closed, censored Facebook friendly bit of hardware has suddenly become as tame as a petting zoo with soft-toys.

We guess this clears the field for a similar technology from Europe which has less of a puritan problem.
