Microsoft's
browser share has continued to plummet and for the first time Internet Explorer dropped under 60 percent.

IE's April market share was 59.95 percent, down from 60.65 percent in the previous month. Chrome increased its share from 6.13 to 6.73 percent and Firefox also gained some share, ending up at 24.59 percent in April.

Microsoft's market share has been contracting for a couple of years and it appears there is no end in sight. Two years ago IE accounted for 75.94 percent of the browser market, but it's been steadily declining thanks to Mozilla and Google.

Microsoft is hoping that IE's ninth iteration with added HTML5 support could help turn the tables.
