Acer's €699 S277HK is the best looking 4K monitor so far

Nobody cares about the spec when you look this good

Acer has a new 4K/UHD monitor and it might be the best looking 3840x2160 to launch so far.

The Acer S277HKwmidpp is a 27-incher based on an IPS panel, which delivers 300cd/m2, static contrast of 1000:1 and dynamic contrast of 100000000:1.

The monitor was announced last month, but at the time Acer did not disclose the price or shipping date.

Acer S277HK offers 60Hz in a stylish package

The S277HK is a 60Hz panel with a response time of 4ms. Viewing angles are 178/178 degrees, which is more or less the norm for IPS panels. Acer also promises 100% sRGB gamut.

What sets the S277HK apart from the rest of the competition is not the spec, but the design. With a minimal metal design, the monitor looks classy rather than geeky and even the bezel is relatively small by 4K standards.
Even the back looks good, although the oversized Acer logo doesn't really match the understated design.

Connectivity

The monitor features a lone legacy DVI connector, along with HDMI 2.0 (MHL) and DisplayPort 1.2 and Mini DisplayPort inputs. When it was announced last month, Acer described it as the world's first 4K2K monitor with HDMI 2.0 support. The spec also mentions a 100x100 VESA mount, although we can't see it (possibly hidden by a panel).

The S277HK consumes up to 44.3W of juice, but on standby it uses just 0.45W, making it rather efficient given the spec. It's covered by a two-year warranty and the MSRP in Euroland is €699, which isn't cheap looking at recent 4K monitor launches. Then again, style never is.

The Acer S277HK should ship by mid-December, although we have no official word on the shipping date. Acer alerady has a number of 4K models on the market, including the G-Sync enabled XB280HK, listed on Newegg for $799.
