Russian Empire to ban Apple iPhone and iPad

by on05 November 2014

iCloud used for spying

The Apple cargo cult is about to be banned in Russia, not because it threatens Russian Orthodoxy, but because the iCloud could be a tool for western spying.

From New Year’s Day any device which connects to the iCloud will be banned, which means that the Russian mafia, who are the only ones who can afford an iPhone in Russia will have to use other devices. There is a real threat that if you are spotted with an iPhone with an iCloud connection you will be stopped and you bendy toy searched to see if you are not sending data to the US. Russian mafia, as a rule do not like their phones been searched.

Of course Apple could fix this problem by having is iCloud for Russia based in Moscow, but the problem with that is that then the Russian spooks would insist on access rather than just the Americans.

However the Tame Apple Press is incandescent with rage over the move. Britain’s Daily Mail claimed it was all part of the rampant homophobia in Russia and the ban is because Apple CEO Tim Cook came out as gay. In this case though that does not look to be the case and that Apple is paying because of its country’s obsession with spying on everyone.
