Install times need to improve on Xbox One

by on27 October 2014

Spencer says it is high on his priority list

Xbox boss Phil Spencer has heard the continued complaints on why game install times on the Xbox One are often time much slower than the same titles on the PlayStation 4. He has offered some insight on the problem which apparently rooted in the initial design decisions of the Xbox One console in the fact that it was originally designed to be an always on environment.

Since they received such a negative reception to that idea from the fans, it was decided to change the Xbox One and the code-flows are not as perfect as they can be. Still the Xbox One is not always the slowest installing games as comparisons show at times the PS4 is slower. Since both consoles have basically the same Blu-ray drive and hard drive setup, they are not really sure one installs are faster on one system than the other.

Spencer admits that it does need work and they are capturing data to get to bottom of the issue. It is high on my priority list because he wants people to be able to play games as soon as possible. He does not defend the slow install times because he thinks they should be faster and he is committed to getting it fixed, but right now there is no timetable on how long it might take to get it fixed.
