Microsoft displeased with Japanese X1 launch

by on03 October 2014

Sold 30K in consoles in three weeks

Microsoft has always struggled in Japan. This is a fact. Neither the Xbox or the Xbox 360 did well in Japan. While the console had fans in Japan, the sales of these two consoles in Japan never amounted to much as it could not overcome Sony and Nintendo.

This time around with the Xbox One, Microsoft was hopeful that things would be different, but after selling only 30,003 units after about three weeks of being on sale in Japan, things are worse than the Xbox 360 launch which managed to sell double that on its opening weekend.

Microsoft isn’t satisfied and the know they much do better in Japan, but that is a question of how they can do better to overcome the home court advantage of Sony and Nintendo. Microsoft is hoping to use user feedback from the Japanese market to make adjustments in hopes of raising sales.

Of course additional software content is going to help too. They also need to get the word out better and build some momentum for the console if they ever hope to be successful in Japan.
