Pocket version of Minecraft just keeps selling

by on10 April 2014

Over 21 million copies sold and climbing

With a short post on the Mojang Twitter feed, the company confirmed that the Minecraft Pocket Edition has sold over 21 million copies. No, this isn’t a misprint, the Pocket Edition of Minecraft has really now sold over 21 million copies and the numbers continue to grow. 21 million copies, this makes it the best selling mobile game of all time.

To put the 21 million sold in perspective, keep in mind that the Xbox 360 Minecraft had an exclusive release window and it has sold over 14 million copies and has over 100 million registered users of the Xbox 360 version. The PlayStation 3 version which was just released back in January has only reached 1 million in sales, but it is still selling, but not at as brisk of a pace as what we saw on the Xbox 360.

Minecraft isn’t finished on the consoles just yet as releases for both the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 are in the works. A release date has yet to be announced yet for either version, but they are expected before the end of the year according to sources.
