Don’t type “pressure cookers” into your browser

You could be raided

If you want to find out the cheapest pressure cooker to buy, don’t under any circumstances search on the internet.

Michele Catalano did that while her husband, in the same time frame, was Googling backpacks. Six men from a joint terrorism task force showed up at their house to see if they were terrorists. Apparently the problem was not caused by Prism.

The Suffolk County Police Department released a statement saying that Criminal Intelligence Detectives received a tip from a Bay Shore based computer company regarding suspicious computer searches conducted by a recently fired employee.

On that computer, the employee searched the terms “pressure cooker bombs” and “backpacks.”

Some of the questions the cops asked Catalano were priceless. Classics like “Do you have any bombs.” That would make any terrorist instantly say “yes.” They asked him if he had a pressure cooker and were told that they had a rice cooker. The cops wanted to know if you could make a bomb with it.

“My husband said no, my wife uses it to make quinoa. What the hell is quinoa, they asked,” Catalano told the press.
